Why do people have to be this lonely? What’s the point of it all? Millions of people in this world, all of them yearning, looking to others to satisfy them, yet isolating themselves. Why? Was the earth put here just to nourish human loneliness?
One step beyond that line, which calls to mind the boundary dividing the living and the dead, and—uncertainly, suffering, death. And what is out there? Who is there— there beyond that field, that tree, that roof lit up by the sun? No one knows, and one longs to know. one dreads crossing that line, yet longs to cross it. you know that sooner or later you will have to cross it and find out what is there on the other side, just as you will inevitably have to learn what lies beyond death.
We don’t always do what’s right, what’s good. Not even for each other. But when it counts, down to the core of it, I believe we do exactly that. What’s right and good for each other. There’s no rule to that. It’s just love
